The Issues That Should Have Ended Cain’s Campaign

By Jake Porter

Herman Cain is finally ending his Presidential campaign after a series of allegations including sexual harassment and adultery. A case can be made that adultery would have little to nothing to do with Cain’s ability to govern; however, I think most reasonable and prudent Americans would agree we do not want sexual harassment to take place in the White House. That being said, allegations are just that, allegations. Many of those in the so called mainstream media continued to ignore the real and verifiable reasons Herman Cain was unqualified to be President and when they had a sensational story to end his campaign they used and focused on the sensational story instead of the boring policy discussions that Cain was unable to answer in interviews and debates.

While keeping Gary Johnson, a former two term Governor of New Mexico out of most of the debates, the media allowed an inexperienced politician with no experience governing to attend each debate and continuously make comments that should have embarrassed the Republican Party. Sure, most of us like a politician that speaks his or her mind; however, we want that candidate’s mind to have a basic understanding of economic and foreign policy.

Don’t get me wrong, Cain made things much more interesting, but putting him up against President Obama in a general election would have been a disaster. Take for example, his inability to get the Republican base around his 999 plan. Or even worse, his claims that the American President didn’t need to know the President of Uzbekistan and believed the nation is irrelevant. Of course, anyone following foreign policy closely would know that Uzbekistan is located on a border of Afghanistan. Then there was those comments that towns could violate the first amendment and ban Mosques or that as President he would never hire a Muslim to any position. Then there were his comments where he couldn’t recall critical information regarding the uprising in Libya. With all these items that most political analysts and consultants would probably agree should end your campaign for President, Cain still remained a front runner. It wasn’t until a scandal broke out that those in the media really attacked him and finally ended his campaign.

We need to do a better job vetting candidates for the highest office in the land and not wait for and rely on sexual scandals to do destroy campaigns of inexperience politicians any longer.
