Former New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson, has announced a 501c4 political advocacy committee called the “Our American Initiative” which has the following mission statement:
OUR America Initiative seeks to broaden the parameters of the public policy debate of current topics in the national arena. We look to enlighten the population about civil liberties, free enterprise, limited government, and traditional American values. It is our aim to increase the amount of discussion and involvement regarding all-important issues.
Gary Johnson has been mentioned as a potential candidate for President in 2012 possibly as either a Republican or as a Libertarian. Becoming the Honorary Chairman of “Our America” could be a step to lay the groundwork for a potential Presidential run. From the website, it also appears that a book about Johnson’s Seven Principles of Good Government may be about to be released which could be another possible step towards launching a run for President.
Presidential campaign or not, the “Our America Initiative” should work to bring issues not frequently discussed by politicians to the American public.

Gary Johnson has a record as Governor of balancing the budget, cutting spending, cutting taxes, and leaving New Mexico in good financial shape when he left office.
Gov. Johnson opposed the Iraq War, declined to endorse George W Bush for President, and has called for an end to the War on Drugs. An outstanding champion of freedom.
A Gary Johnson campaign would focus on domestic issues of limited government and personal freedom. Gary Johnson has a reasonable position on immigration and abortion, two issues that many libertarians had trouble with Ron Paul over.
Gene,
Thanks for commenting. I agree that Johnson’s stance on social issues will make it a lot easier for libertarians to support him. It could also help him with younger voters.
If he decides to run, I wish Gary well, but I do believe trying to run as a Libertarian would be better than trying to get through a Republican primary.
